Viña Concha y Toro
Viña Concha y Toro (Av. Virginia Subercaseaux 210, Pirque, Santiago) – given that the Chilean wine industry has growth into a world producer over the years, Viña Concha y Toro (founded in 1883) is one of the best-known wineries in Chile (if not the world).
The tour takes you through the main grounds of the winery; you will make a stop in their wine garden, which shows all the grapes they grow, and where you can sample all the different varieties growing. If you visit during harvest time, you will get the best samples. Next, you go to the terrace to sip a cool white wine. Afterwards, you head into the Casillero del Diablo (the Devil’s Cellar). Then you walk back upstairs for the red wine tasting (the tour’s conclusion). You can then visit the Wine Shop or the Wine Bar (where one can buy wine at a discount).
Viña Concha conducts 25 tours a day in English, Spanish & Portuguese, starting a various times between 10 am and 5:10 pm. Each tour is about an hour long, which includes a souvenir wine glass. Cost: $8.600 pesos (US$18) per person. See its website for more details: www.conchaytoro.com
